The Balit Durn Durn Centre builds upon the wisdom, experience and expertise of Victoria’s Aboriginal communities that support Aboriginal SEWB and the key policies and strategies that aim to advance the self-determination of Aboriginal people and their communities:
Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System Interim Report 2019 and Final Report 2021 details the Commission aspiration for self-determination of Aboriginal people and their Communities in the design and delivery of mental health treatment, care and support that is safe, inclusive, respectful and responsive.
The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Strategy has a holistic and early intervention focus that works to build strong communities through more community-focused and integrated approaches to suicide prevention and commits the Government to genuinely engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to develop local, culturally appropriate strategies to identify and respond to those most at risk within our communities.
Make Healing Happen launched by The Healing Foundation tells policy makers how to restore dignity for those from the Stolen Generation who have suffered and recognises the centrality of self-determination and the strengths of First Nations cultures in healing historical trauma and driving and intergenerational healing movement.
